Oh, Luceti. You and the things you make me do.

After several days of noticing him noticing her, saucy comments and warm flirtation, Rogue suffered an attack of conscience. She pulled him aside from where they had been patrolling and made herself look him in the eye, "Marcus, look. We need ta stop this."

He met her gaze, his lips turned into a frown, "Stop what?"

Rogue sighed, cocking one hip forward with exasperation as she gestured a gloved hand back and forth, indicating the space between them. "This. Us. It needs ta stop."

He stared at her a moment and then gave her a rare, warm smile, slow like molasses, "From where I'm standin', we haven't even started yet."

Despite her reaction to the clear intention in his eyes, the note of appreciation in his voice, Rogue shook her head, "You don't know what you're talkin' about. My powers--"

He cut her off by taking a half-step closer, his expression suddenly fierce, "If this is about our time being too short, or about our different enclosures, that's one thing. If it's about your powers, that's something else. I know about your powers, Rogue."

His expression took a turn for the abashed, "In my world, you're something of an icon."

Rogue blinked. "Oh." And then she frowned fiercely, "If this is about you gettin' on with an icon--"

"No!" He put his hands on her shoulders. "No. Girl, where do you get this stuff?"

He shook her, once, before dropping his hands and moving in one swift movement to strip off his black T-shirt.

Rogue blinked again, "Not that I don't appreciate the view, but have ya lost your damn mind?"

Marc ignored her, slipping a hand inside his T-shirt as she spoke and then lifting his now-covered hand to cup her cheek. Rogue's eyes widened. She moved to step back, but he caught her shoulder with his other hand.

"You wanna know what this is about? I'm telling you," he ducked his head so that their eyes were level. "I still feel you."

And then he slid his hand off her shoulder, down her arm, to capture her by the cuff of her sleeve and lift up her gloved hand to place it over his heart on his naked chest. "Do you feel me?"

She looked at him a long, long moment, a thousand screaming voices in her head, in her heart. But she could also feel the warmth of his hand through the cloth on her cheek, feel his heart beating under her gloved hand far too quickly for how collected he appeared.

"Yeah," she said quietly. "Yeah, I feel you."

Marc's shoulders slumped in relief and he straightened up, releasing his grip on her hand. Rogue didn't move it off his chest and he smiled with his eyes. "Sometimes," he said, and she could feel his thumb moving under the cloth of this T-shirt, caressing a line through the fabric over her cheekbone, "it's just that simple."

Though the power cut had mercifully limited the psyche's interference in her life during the day, at night they came out to play with a vengeance. It wasn't any wonder that Rogue was up at all hours, but what had surprised her on the first night of his residence was that Marcus was often up at the same odd hours she was. And tonight, as she'd stepped into the kitchen, he'd been there. They moved quietly, got their respective tea (for Marcus) and coffee (for Rogue, there was no point in trying to go to sleep after this) and stepped outside to talk. Even with Logan's senses cut to ten percent, Rogue didn't want to risk waking him. He'd been looking a bit too gray, in her not-so-humble opinion, and she wanted him to sleep.

They talked for a while, and Rogue tried the usual calming tactics of banter and flirtation, rooting Marcus to the here and now, but he was still clearly wound up. When he started shaking, Rogue put her hand on his shoulder and was startled when he dropped his mug of tea and pulled her into a rough embrace, holding her to him tightly.

The abrupt contact made her uncomfortable and wary, he was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and she had on her gloves, still she stiffened in his embrace in a instinctive movement. But when he didn't let go, only clutched her to him more tightly, as if she was his only hope of salvation, she slowly moved to place her hands on his sides.

"Gawd, Marcus. What happened to ya?"

He let out a low and entirely unhealthy sounding laugh and shifted just enough to look down at her, "You wanna know?"

He shifted a hand to the back of her head, a bare hand, but her powers wouldn't activate through her hair, "I'll show you."

Using his grip on the back of her head, he tilted her face up, leaned down, and kissed her. Two overwhelming sensations happened at once.

One - the pull of her powers was sluggish, but instant. The moment his lips touched hers, his memories began pouring into her. But instead of frantic strobe lights and flashes of experience, each one was drawn out and experienced in full. One horrible experiment, one further degradation after another, feelings of such shame and helpless anger...

One - his kiss, while not exactly brutal, was far from considerate. It was aggressive, possessive, an outpouring of desperate emotion as he attempted to lose himself in pleasure. He worked to challenge her, and though surprised, Rogue was not one to turn away from a challenge, however...

It was horribly, disturbingly intimate. He was against her lips and inside her mind. He was in her, and she was living out each horrific experience as him as he pressed insistently against her lips. While at first she'd tried to respond, it was simply too much. The contrast of the pain he'd experienced, the sensation of contact, his faint pleasure she could feel through the absorption, and her own rapid feelings claustrophobia was just too much. It was overwhelming.

She tried to shift her head away and said, "Stop."

He might not have heard her. Or he might not have cared. But his hand slid down, seeking the thin line of skin peeking out between her shirt and her pants. Her powers might have been working slowly, but they were working, and when he didn't stop, Rogue took full advantage of her increased strength and his increased weakness to shove him away.

"I said 'Stop!'"

He stumbled back. "What?"

And Rogue exploded, "What the hell do ya mean, 'what?' What gave you the right!?"

"Rogue--"

"No!"

And, angry, hurting, and filled with more distinct experiences of someone else than she'd had since Cody - horrible experiences, all of the worst ones that had lead him to trauma (how dare he think of them, shove them in my mind while he was kissing me), she reacted violently and punched him in the jaw.

He hadn't been expecting it and it landed hard. He stumbled back. They had, by this time, walked a bit away from the house.

"You find another place ta sleep tonight."

And she started back to the house.

Little did she know, they were thinking of something eerily similar as she walked off: Well, could have handled that better.
